When most people think of Lincoln wedding venues, they think of churches. But there are a whole lot more places than churches to get married.
Some people like interesting places. Some want unique. Some just want to be outside. For those who want ideas other than churches, I’ve identified five of my top wedding venues in or near Lincoln to get married.
My first selection for great Lincoln wedding venues is the great outdoors. Many people brave Nebraska’s uncertain weather patterns and schedule a wedding outside. That could be in a residential back yard, at a commercial business or simply at a park.
Lincoln has a long list of parks throughout the city, and many of these are great options for weddings. The first one that likely comes to mind is Sunken Gardens, a lovely area filled with colorful plants and flowers that make great backdrops to the special day.
Or maybe you want more space and opt for Pioneers Park. The columns at Pioneers Park make for a wonderful setting and one that’s in demand.
Remember not to just show up at the park for your wedding. You will need to reserve your space and pay a fee.
The Capitol Building is one of Lincoln’s treasures and a favorite option for Lincoln wedding venues. Capitol staff estimate about 50 couples get married at the Statehouse every year. There is no charge but there are some strict rules to follow. Check here to see what they are.
Country Pines is a hugely in-demand venue for weddings. Located just northwest of the city, it offers a rustic country setting, which many couples like. An estimated 85 weddings are held each year at Country Pines. Weddings are held outside but a covered patio space is available.
Country Pines has been hosting weddings for 16 years. If you like the area, book early as it’s one of Lincoln’s most popular outdoor settings.
A newer venue for an outdoor wedding is a lovely setting called Avalon Event Paradise south of Lincoln near Crete. This 32-acre property is a personal residence but the family decided to open it up to the public for weddings. It features lots of green space and a beautiful lake with an island, which provides a picturesque setting for weddings. Staff can seat a few hundred on this island, and guests and the wedding party walk over a quaint bridge to the island for the ceremony. Afterward, the large grounds are available for receptions. Many couples set up tents. The setting also provides many lovely areas for wedding photography.
For smaller weddings, cozy settings like the Rogers House make for a beautiful ceremony. The Rogers House just southeast of downtown Lincoln is a popular bed and breakfast. The main living area is transformed into a place for wedding ceremonies. Families and wedding party can take advantage of the entire building by booking the rooms and partaking in a great breakfast the next morning.
