Welcome to my blog. On this page you will find articles I personally write about the photography industry and my work. You will also see blogs showing the photos from many of my photo sessions.
I venture to say that just about every photographer has their own way of doing their job. After watching various photographers at weddings, I, owner of Lori Black Photography, decided to write a series outlining my approach to my wedding photography assignments.
This series will discuss the following:
Bridal prep – how do I cover the start of the day?
How do I photograph wedding details?
How do I photograph a ceremony?
What is my approach to formal family portraits?
What do I do between the ceremony and reception?
How do I complete the job once the wedding is over?
Since light is a necessity for photography, I will discuss the use of light. I feel that the use of light is one of the primary factors distinguishing different photographers. Some use natural light only. Some use flash on camera. Some use flash off camera. Some don’t use any flash. Some only use professional strobe lighting off camera.
I think it is important for anyone hiring a professional photographer – especially an engaged couple looking for a wedding photographer – to know how they work. Afterall, they will be with that photographer for several hours on the most important day of their lives. They should like how their photographer operates and does his or her job.
I think so many couples hire a photographer without knowing their approach to the day. That should not happen. That is why I am writing this blog series. I want people looking at Lori Black Photography for their wedding photography – or for any photography – to know what they are getting. I want them to know what to expect and how I work.
Granted – this is something all photographers should outline when their clients hire them. However, I am noticing that more and more couples are hiring photographers without significant conversation beforehand and without asking these kinds of question.
I’m hoping this blog series will answer the questions that couples should be asking when looking for a wedding photographer.
