Welcome to my blog. On this page you will find articles I personally write about the photography industry and my work. You will also see blogs showing the photos from many of my photo sessions.
Moments in Time Images photographs a lot of weddings, and sometimes some of the best photos are the candid ones.
I really enjoy all the nice portraits, whether they are family formal shots or bridal portraits or photos of the bride and groom. But beyond the formal is the informal — the candid photos. These are photos taken of the real action and it tells the viewer of the pictures what is going on and what actually happened. When shooting these candid shots, it is best for the photographer to be shooting with a longer lens and be farther away from the action. This way the presence of the camera doesn’t impact the scene. Rather the scene takes place as it was meant to be, and the photographer is standing back capturing it with the lens.
Take the photo in this blog post, for example. I love it because it shows true emotion during a candid moment at the wedding reception. The bride is truly touched by something the maid of honor says in her toast, and it is apparent on the bride’s face. This is a candid shot that tells a story.
That is the essence of these shots — telling a story. Photographers always strive to tell a story with their photos, and these photojournalistic shots are better at that that any other picture. It might be the bride opening a wedding gift from her mother or fiance and capturing the look on her face. It might be the look on the face of the father of the bride or the groom when they see the bride for the first time.
When you book your wedding photographer, make sure to find out if he or she will be able to get plenty of candid shots. Sometimes those are the best in the lot.
