Welcome to my blog. On this page you will find articles I personally write about the photography industry and my work. You will also see blogs showing the photos from many of my photo sessions.
I had photographed an outdoor wedding a couple years ago and the wind messed with the day. You could see hair blowing in the photographs. But we all did the best we could.
Fast forward to this spring. I had another outdoor wedding scheduled and it was supposed to be extremely windy. I was a bit worried. I wasn’t even sure if Avery and Octavious, the bride and groom, would even still have it outside. There was a possibility of it moving inside.
It was at a location I had not been – Lilac Hill in Louisville, Nebraska. I traveled there and saw Avery, who informed me the wedding would be outside. The photos were shot outside and I was pleasantly surprised. While it was windy, it wasn’t the problem I anticipated it might be. The photos barely show any blowing hair!
Here are the responses from Avery and Octavious to a questionnaire my brides are asked after the wedding:
Tell me all about how the proposal took place?
We were on vacation in Saguaro National Park and had hiked ~6 miles up to the highest peak in the park. He proposed when we had the entire peak to ourselves, but my fingers were so swollen from the altitude and hike that the ring only went halfway on my finger!
Describe your wedding day in your own words
Our wedding day was perfect. It exceeded our expectations! We both were very nervous because we hadn’t been to a lot of weddings before and didn’t really know what to expect, but it was a perfect day and greatly reflected our personalities as well.
What was your favorite moment of the day and why?
I think my favorite moment of the day was the first look. I am super glad we chose to do that because not only did it allow us to get most of the pictures done prior to the ceremony, but it also helped ease both of our nerves I think. It put less pressure on us during the ceremony. I also loved how emotional the ceremony still was even though we had already seen each other all day!
Was there anything unexpected or unplanned that occurred? How did you handle it?
The only unexpected thing that I can think of was how windy it was all day, but it is Nebraska! I had been so worried about the possibility of thunderstorms that I did not stop to think about how windy it would be, but I think it still turned out great. Lori, your professionalism and experience really shines through all of the windy pictures.
What is one piece of advice that you could give future brides?
I would just tell future brides to try to relax and know that even if not everything goes to plan they will still have a great wedding and marry their best friend!
Is there anything else you’d like to share? (This answer was written to me. Awww, thanks Avery!)
We would just like to thank you again for how fantastic you were! You really helped our wedding stay on the general timeline, and we received many compliments on your professionalism from guests as well!
