Wedding planning turned difficult this year for Carly and Robert. Last year everything was moving along without a hitch. Then Covid-19 hit, and that left the couple uncertain about what to do.
They had their wedding planned for July 2020. They considered changing their plans. Possibly delaying the reception. In the end, they decided to go ahead with it as planned. And it too came off without a hitch.
The two met while on the swim team at Nebraska Wesleyan University. Carly was in her freshman year, but they didn’t start dating until late in her junior year.
The proposal was especially special. Robert had an internship in Washington D.C., working with Congressman Adrian Smith. Carly went with Robert’s family to Washington to visit the last week Robert was there.
They visited the rotunda, the crypt and then to the Speaker’s Balcony, overlooking the National Mall. A sign on the door said it was closed until later, but Carly and Robert were still able to get onto the balcony. Carly assumed it was because they were there with the congressman. In reality, it was because Robert had a plan.
The family went onto the balcony to look around and take photos. When they started to go back inside, Robert asked Carly to stay out onto the balcony with him. It was there that he proposed. Carly says she thinks people down on the steps knew what was going on because she heard clapping.
The wedding day, Carly says, couldn’t have been any better. Her favorite part was when they were pronounced husband and wife. As for Covid, she says they just made the best of it.
One piece of advice she would give to future brides?
“Stress about planning all you want before the wedding, but once you hit rehearsal and through the end of the wedding just enjoy the moment. It’s only one day, so make the most of it.”
Here are some photos form the wedding.
