Welcome to my blog. On this page you will find articles I personally write about the photography industry and my work. You will also see blogs showing the photos from many of my photo sessions.
Robber’s Cave is one Lincoln, Nebraska venue growing in popularity for weddings. What makes this venue different from anyplace else is that guests are offered tours of the cave. The bride and/or wedding party can get photos taken in the cave, and that can make for some unique and spectacular photos.
Lori Black Photography has photographed several weddings at Robbers Cave, and it’s a place I find fascinating. The cave is historic to Lincoln. It used to be a tourist attraction back in the day. According to Internet research, the cave is hand dug, 5,000 square feet, located in southwest Lincoln. German immigrants expanded a natural cave by tunneling through soft Dakota sandstone.
It had been closed for decades until recent years. A restaurant opened in the building over the cave a few years ago. When it closed, the building became a venue for parties and weddings. A local historian, Joel Green, wrote a book called “Robber’s Cave: Truths, Legends, Recollections,” and can likely answer whatever question you may have about the cave. In 2020, Robbers Cave was named to the National Register of Historic Places.
Robber’s Cave a great place for a wedding because it has a large room in the lower level suitable for serving dinner and dancing. An adjoining large room works well for buffet tables. A spacious area for gatherings of wedding guests upon arrival is available on the main level, where drinks and appetizers can be served. In addition to the large rooms in the lower level are rooms that work well for getting ready for the big day. Robber’s Cave is not just a reception venue. It has plenty of room outside to host an outdoor wedding.
On the occasions I have photographed weddings there, the highlight has always been the entrance into the cave to take photos. The area is well-lit, and the walls of the cave are interesting in and of themselves with written words from long ago.
If you are looking for a memorable place for your wedding, I urge you to consider Robber’s Cave.
