Welcome to my blog. On this page you will find articles I personally write about the photography industry and my work. You will also see blogs showing the photos from many of my photo sessions.
If you want to see what the business interior Roper & Sons Funeral Home looks like inside, you can now do that without leaving your home. Roper & Sons is the latest business to take advantage of a Google Street View Trusted virtual tour.
Google Street View Trusted is a way for businesses to put a business interior on the map — the Google map that is. A business interior tour is displayed on Google Search, Google Maps and Google Plus. People wanting to see what the funeral home looks like need only to Google “Roper & Sons” and they will see at the right a little box that says “See Inside.” Click on it and you will get a virtual walking tour of the funeral home.
The process of shooting the funeral home was pretty straightforward. I started the tour outside the east door and shot two panoramic photographs. I then made a straight shot through the entrance to the chapel, where I moved right and took a couple shots inside. From there I shot a conference room and a parlor area where families meet prior to a service. After the first floor was completed, I shot several panoramic photos in the lower level, including the area where the caskets are displayed and where the kitchen and dining area are located.
Once the pictures were taken, they are placed into Google’s software, where they are stitched together. A couple days later, the final virtual tour is placed online. To maneuver through a virtual tour, start by clicking and dragging all the way around to see the 360-degree vision of the business. Then click on the arrows on the floor, which will walk you through the business. Booking a virtual tour gives businesses still photos of their business interior as well.
For Roper & Sons, putting a virtual tour online was a great idea. During the time of a loved one’s death, arrangements need to be made quickly. Grieving people don’t want and don’t have time to shop around for the best funeral home. A virtual tour will give people the comfort in knowing that they can trust Roper & Sons with handling their arrangements because the funeral home is putting itself out there for the whole world to see. People can see what a service in chapel may be like because they can see the chapel online through rich, 360-degree photography.
The virtual tours are fast and affordable and in my view are a no-brainer for Lincoln area businesses who want to have an online presence. Other businesses shot by MIT Images 360 include Everwell Family Chiropractic, James Arthur Vineyards, From Nebraska Gift Shop and The Fit Canine.
