Welcome to my blog. On this page you will find articles I personally write about the photography industry and my work. You will also see blogs showing the photos from many of my photo sessions.
Don’t do these yourself at your weddingI get it. Weddings are expensive. But there are certain things couples should just not do themselves when it comes to the big day. It may sound like a good deal at the time, but it’s really not. Here is a list of wedding DYI don’ts.
I can’t stress this enough. Too many couples hire a relative or a friend to take some photos at their wedding. I realize wedding photographers are expensive, but there’s a reason for that. They know what they are doing. They have the proper equipment to do the job. I strongly believe that if you hire a friend or relative who is not a professional photographer you will be disappointed in the results. You might think that quality photos don’t really matter but they do. Everyone wants to look their best in their wedding photos, and I promise you that you won’t look your best if you don’t hire a professional.
You might be tempted to buy some cake mix and bake something at home, but it won’t be a cake you will be proud of. It won’t look good in your photos and it won’t look good to your wedding guests. It is best to leave the baking to the professionals. Plus you don’t want to worry about you or a friend baking the cake when you don’t need the stress.
Unless you know a lot about makeup and hairstyles, it’s recommended that you hire a professional to assist you. Wedding makeup artists will apply your makeup so that it lasts the entire day, which is essential. I can tell you from experience that when I apply my own makeup, it definitely does not last the entire day. Professional hair and makeup will make you look your best in your wedding photos.
Wedding catering is very stressful and time consuming. If you ask your friends or family to cook the food, you are putting a lot of stress on them. You may end up with not enough food. Professional caterers know what goes into preparing food for large groups. They also know how to store and transport the food safely. You don’t want anyone getting sick from your wedding food, do you?
This is the one I see the most. Many couples put out a couple speakers and play music from a friend’s phone. The friend then makes the announcements like a DJ. There’s something better about having a professional DJ or musician assist you at the reception. It will look and sound better, and your guests will have a better time.
When deciding on your wedding DIY projects, think about what goes into a specific task before you decide to take it on yourself.
