As a professional photographer, it grates on me when I see bad photos being used to promote something.
Case in point: I was helping a family member look for a new house. This required looking at homes posted on websites. It was amazing to me how many people posted bad photos of houses for sale.
Photos were not sharp. Some had bad lighting or bad composition and messy looking subjects.
I realize that a lot of people know very little about photography and use bad photography equipment, resulting in bad photos. My feeling is if you are trying to shoot a photo of a house or any other object you want to promote or sell, you should invest in photography to make that object look good.
There are plenty of photographers, including myself, who will shoot photos of houses for sale for a relatively inexpensive charge. Yet people who want to sell their house usually don’t want to spend the extra money to make that house look good in photos.
I think we can agree that when people look online for houses for sale, they look at the photos first. If the photos aren’t appealing, they likely will move onto another house.
I know plenty of real estate agents who don’t take care to make sure the photos they take of houses are really good.
