Welcome to my blog. On this page you will find articles I personally write about the photography industry and my work. You will also see blogs showing the photos from many of my photo sessions.
Is it necessary to have a second shooter at your wedding? I suspect that is a question many engaged couples consider when hiring a wedding photographer.
While there have been a few occasions where I worked with a second shooter, I shoot weddings solo. I have found that I can cover a wedding sufficiently without another person taking pictures with me.
Some couples don’t understand how the entire wedding day can be covered by one person. If they are uncomfortable with that, then they should have another person. However, I believe many couples don’t see the value in having two photographers. I remember one wedding I attended – not as a photographer – where two photographers stood together the entire time and each shot the same scene!
Here are some questions to ask yourself when deciding whether to have a second photographer.
First of all, if you have a wedding with a huge number of guests, money may not be an issue when deciding on whether to spring for a second photographer. Also, with more people, one of the photographers can focus on capturing interesting moments with the guests.
Many couples are concerned how one photographer can cover the getting ready of both the bride and the groom, especially if they are at different locations. I can tell you that I have covered both without problems, even when they are at different locations. However, if this is a big concern a second can ease your concerns.
A relaxed and casual wedding easily can be covered by one photographer. However if you have several activities planned, another shooter might be of help. A second photographer can cover the reception while the main photographer is taking photos of post-ceremony photos.
If a photographer is not able to move around during the ceremony, it can be helpful to have another person to cover a ceremony from more than one angle. Personally, I have never experienced a time where I wasn’t allowed to move around during the ceremony.
