Welcome to my blog. On this page you will find articles I personally write about the photography industry and my work. You will also see blogs showing the photos from many of my photo sessions.
Couples always look forward to their engagement photo shoot. One of the most common dilemmas, however, is exactly where to shoot those photos.
As spring gets into full gear, my outdoor photo shooting will begin again, and engagement photo sessions will be among the busiest. As I do most of my shooting in Lincoln, I’ll first discuss a couple of obvious places in the capital city where people get their engagement photos taken. Then I’ll delve into a few more out of the ordinary spots.
Pioneers Park is probably my most-common go-to location. There’s just so much there. You can shoot photos in one area, drive a bit and find a whole new look for additional photos. One of the aspects of the park that I don’t like is that it’s so commonly used. Who hasn’t had their photos taken by the lovely columns at the park? However, if you look for some more out-of-the way parts of the park, you can find some photos that will look different than anyone else’s.
Of course no photo shoot list would be complete without Sunken Gardens. This is truly one of the most beautiful areas of Lincoln. If you’re looking for color in your photos, Sunken Gardens has it, at least in the summer and fall months. The drawback is again, the commonness of it all. Everyone goes to Sunken Gardens to get their pictures taken.
Now that the common places are out of the way, let’s discuss some locations that are a little less common. Here are some ideas.
1. University of Nebraska-Lincoln. UNL’s city and east campuses are lovely and have several worthwhile places to shoot photos. There’s nature, color and interesting structures that will for great photos.
2. The Jamaica Trail. There’s a spot in extreme south Lincoln near Wilderness Park where the Jamaica Trail has some beautiful spots for photos. I love the big bridge, which makes for great pictures, as well as the numerous green areas.
3. The Bridges. The Bridges is a new housing developing southwest of Lincoln by Denton. To get into the subdivision, you must drive across this great big bridge. There are lots of areas around this bridge that will provide wonderful settings for photography.
4. Your own home. If you want something truly unique, consider lifestyle photos of the two of you in your own home. You can get some great photos of you interacting in everyday ways. The photos can turn out quite interesting, and you know that no one else will have photos there.
