Know your photographer

If you are hiring a photographer for a big job, it’s probably a good idea to know your photographer. I don’t mean you need to know everything about the person — but meet him or her and try to establish a rapport.

It is important to feel comfortable with your photographer. Brides and grooms in particular spend a lot of time with this person and it will be helpful for everyone if there is some rapport and mutual respect. In short, you should like your photographer as a person.

I’ve been a photographer for a few years now, and in order for you to know a little about me, here are some facts about me that if you don’t know me you wouldn’t know.

1. I was born and raised in Lincoln. I attended Lincoln Southeast High School and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. I majored in journalism and as part of that major took some classes in photography. I started my career as a newspaper reporter and the bulk of my career has been as a writer.
2. I lived in Wisconsin for about 10 years. After working in the field of journalism for about 10 years, I moved to Wisconsin. It’s a state I had never been to and never would have predicted living there. I moved there because my job at United Press International was about to end and I was offered a job by a colleague in Waukesha, Wisconsin. After about 10 years, I decided to move back home.
3. I’m a huge animal lover. I wasn’t always this way. When I was very young I would pet a dog and feel an immediate need to go wash my hands. It was in my adult years that I established a keen love for pets, particularly dogs. I got my first dog right before moving back to Lincoln from Wisconsin. Shortly after that I got a second dog. My husband and I now have two dogs and two cats. If it was in my power, I would wave my magic wand and end all animal cruelty in the world and make sure every animal has a loving home.
4. I met my husband at the dog park. After I moved back to Lincoln, I took my two dogs to the Holmes Lake dog run. There was a handsome gentleman there with a Dalmation. We struck up a conversation, and that conversation still continues to this day.
5. My mother lives with us. My elderly mother, who is a widow, lives with my husband and myself. She has for the past 10 years. She is a big help around the house, and I know we help her out by allowing her to live with us.
