Welcome to my blog. On this page you will find articles I personally write about the photography industry and my work. You will also see blogs showing the photos from many of my photo sessions.
Pet photography is becoming more and more popular. One of my favorite topics is dogs. I love shooting photos of dogs. Of course it’s’ challenging, but still fun. Sometimes the dogs don’t cooperate. Sometimes they don’t give you great facial expressions. But you can still get cute photos of dogs. Here are some examples.
There are lots of ways people take photos of dogs. They grab their camera and point it at the dog and press click. Many stand over the dog and shoot down. Many don’t know the first thing about depth of field.

Many factors are important when photographing dogs. There’s a lot to be aware of. Keeping track of all these factors is what will lead to pleasing photographs.
The dog in this photo is named Papi — pronounced like the flower poppy. He’s a young dog, a mix between a boxer and a Boston terrier. His owner is an acquaintance of mine. He did a good job posing and while he didn’t smile for the camera, he still looks sharp and dramatic in photographs.
I love the look of the black fur against the black background. You might think it would all blend together, but there are ways to light photos so that the black on black looks absolutely fabulous. It doesn’t hurt to throw in some color through the use of this red tablecloth.
There are lots of things you can do to achieve great pet photos. I look forward to the challenge.
