Welcome to my blog. On this page you will find articles I personally write about the photography industry and my work. You will also see blogs showing the photos from many of my photo sessions.
So far I have been lucky in that I haven’t had a rainy wedding day. I haven’t experienced a significant rain event during a wedding in which I was to take photos.
I realize when couples schedule their weddings, they have no way of knowing what the weather will be on that day. Rain is probably one of the biggest fears. However, even if it rains you can still get some great photos. Here are three things to consider if it’s raining.
No one wants a rainy wedding day – especially the photographer. However it doesn’t have to ruin the wedding day. Keep a good attitude. If you have a negative attitude it could show in the photos. Keeping a positive attitude will result in some great photos – even if they are all taken inside.
Still want to go outside in the rain to take photos? Here are some options. Stand under an awning or on a porch. Even an overhanging of tree branches can provide protection and give you that outdoor look you crave. Your photographer probably has already scouted out some places to take outdoor photos in the rain, so get guidance from him or her. If nothing else, if you know it’s going to rain plan on bringing some cute umbrellas. They can be a great prop and add lots to a photo.
Many couples consider skipping some of the scheduled shots because of the rain. But the rain can actually enhance the images and result in beautiful photos. The rain serves as a natural backdrop and the overcast clouds are ideal for outdoor lighting. It also gives your surroundings a boost in saturation so the colors around you really stand out. So before you write off these outdoor portraits, talk to your photographer and get their ideas.
If you absolutely don’t want to shoot in the rain consider coming back to the venue to shoot those outdoor bride and groom portraits photos later. Otherwise, don’t let the rain get you down on your wedding day. Embrace it and trust that your photographer knows what to do to to capture you beautifully in the not so ideal elements.
