Welcome to my blog. On this page you will find articles I personally write about the photography industry and my work. You will also see blogs showing the photos from many of my photo sessions.
What fun I had this week at Sunken Gardens photographing an adorable young teenager. Delaney was a great model, and a beautiful one at that.
She picked out three cute dresses and we headed off to Sunken Gardens. I wasn’t sure how well the flowers looked at the gardens since I hadn’t been there yet this year. I’ve driven by a few times and glanced over and it looked to me that it was pretty barren. But I was surprised how well the flowers had grown and how beautiful the place was. I love shooting in Sunken Gardens. The only issue I have is sometimes it’s pretty crowded so it can be challenging to keep other people out of the background of the shots.
We started simple. I asked Delaney to simply sit in front of a flower bed and I photographed her to help her get somewhat comfortable. It was evening but still pretty sunny, so I had to be mindful of the location of the sun. After those initial shots we moved around the gardens, shooting on several pathways and on benches. I asked Delaney to walk playfully up and down the pathways as I shot my Canon 5D Mark IV.
We went into a secluded area of the gardens that has a bench somewhat hidden from view. It’s one of my favorite areas to shoot at the gardens. We went to the pond and did some shooting around there and got some shots that were strongly backlit by the sun.
Delaney was a little quiet but she seemed to be a natural model. She knew just how to pose and follow my guidance as I directed her through my photo shoot.
I’ve decided one of my new photo offerings will be little girls
in pretty dresses in pretty locations. It’s not only a fun shoot, but a beautiful one.
