Here’s why you should do video

I had an email this morning from a young woman who is to be married in about three weeks and wanted wedding video. The fact that she is checking into it three weeks before the wedding indicates to me that this is something they put off to see if they had money for it after everything else was purchased.

Unfortunately, that is often what wedding video is relegated to. It’s usually put on the back burner, not considered until close to the wedding day. Brides and grooms quite often want it, but often it is one of those things that they feel they will do if there’s money left for it at the end.

So back to this young woman who emailed today. Her wedding is in three short weeks and she wanted our Premium video package. We exchanged a few emails and within 30 minutes she wrote back and said they didn’t have money in the budget for a videographer. My guess is that she really wants it but someone else close to her persuaded her that it’s not worth the money.

Let me tell you why I think wedding video is worth the money. First of all — there’s that research out there that indicates clearly that the vast majority of couples who don’t hire a wedding videographer later come to regret it. Think about it. Couples spend thousands of dollars to make this day perfect. They’ll pay thousands to a photographer to record still images of the day. The day will go by in a flash. Couples will miss aspects of it. There will be things they don’t see and don’t remember. A wedding film is the perfect way for them to capture this day forever. They will get to relive it over and over.

Relive your day, hear your vows

Years from now, you will treasure those living images of family members who attended your wedding. Some may no longer be here and your wedding film will let you see them again. Video will allow you to see all the emotion, hear the words and the vows that you would never ever hear again.

There’s a lot of couples who make wedding video a priority and book it early. But it seems many couples think of wedding as an afterthought. They think of it as something that’s really not that valuable — something that should not cost a lot of money. While they are willing to pay a few thousand dollars for photography, they think the videographer should be happy with a few hundred.

What they don’t realize is that editing a video is much harder work than editing photos. A lot goes into making a wedding video. There’s much intricate work editing those clips together to make everything flow. In my opinion — wedding video should cost even more than wedding photography.

So if you’re wedding day is approaching and you haven’t considered a videographer, think about it. I promise you that you will not regret choosing wedding video.
