Welcome to my blog. On this page you will find articles I personally write about the photography industry and my work. You will also see blogs showing the photos from many of my photo sessions.
Brides looking for a large, rustic venue in the Omaha area should look no further than the Barn at Ackerhurst Dairy Farm.
Moments in Time Images recently had the privilege of photographing a wedding at this facility in Bennington, and while renovations are still underway, it will be a one-of-a-kind venue for weddings and other events.
The barn was built in 1935 by a Boston dairy farmer named Anthony Ackermann. When complete, the Ackerhurst Dairy Barn was described as the largest barn in Nebraska. The wooden rectangular barn is nearly 200 feet long and is as tall as a four-story building.
In 2002 the Ackerhurst barn was designated a landmark by the Omaha Landmarks Heritage Preservation Commission. It also was listed on the National Register of Historic places.
It has been significantly renovated to serve as a venue for weddings and events. Updates include new heating and air conditioning, insulation, the addition of a parking lot and patio, modern restrooms, a catering kitchen and rooms for the wedding party.
Planned renovations include an elevator, expanded parking, landscaping, and additional restoration.
One of the more striking features of The Barn is the Haymow Room, which features a gothic truss structural system that creates a massive cathedral design. The woodwork is original and is being restored. This room can accommodate up to 350 people. It’s an attractive venue for wedding ceremonies. The room was still under construction when I went to the barn the first time. I went back later and got some striking photos of the room. I can see why brides and grooms want to use this room for their weddings.
Couples wanting to get married outdoors will have beautiful settings on the grounds. Great backdrops for photos include the barn itself, an old tractor and plenty of nature.
