How do you know if you have chosen the right photographer?
Choosing a photographer is difficult. It’s so competitive. You will see so many photographers at so many different price points.
Looking for a wedding photographer? You will see prices all over the map. You can go online and find wedding photographers for as low as $500, or maybe even less. And you can find them for several thousand dollars.
Likewise, with portrait photographers. You can spend $100 for senior portraits or you can spend $1,000 or more.
So the question remains: how do you choose the right photographer?
The first tip I would have is don’t decide solely on price. I think there could be $500 wedding photographers out there whose work looks comparable to that of photographers who charge much more than that.
I realize price is an important consideration, but I also think it’s important to look at some other factors. The biggest factor is the work itself. Look at some of the photographer’s work he or she has posted online and see if you resonate with it. Do you like the person’s style? Do you think the photos are good?
Another consideration is how well you interact with the photographer. Each person’s personality is different, and you need to make sure you get along well with your photographer of choice. This might require a pre-event meeting, or at least a phone call, to see if you mesh well.
One thing I always advise against is don’t choose a photographer solely on price. More often than not, you will regret your decision and be unhappy with the results.
So the bottom line: if you consider price, the photographer’s work and the photographer’s personality and feel comfortable with all three, I think you can feel safe in saying you have chosen the right photographer.
