Welcome to my blog. On this page you will find articles I personally write about the photography industry and my work. You will also see blogs showing the photos from many of my photo sessions.
Choosing a spot for your engagement photosCouples always look forward to their engagement photos, but it can be a challenge deciding where to take them. I remember when I got married, we had our engagement photos taken inside a photo studio. That is the way people used to do it, but there are only so many ways you can pose when you take indoor studio shots. I haven’t seen that done i
n several years. Couples today and their photographers prefer to shoot outdoors in an attractive setting. It results in more interesting backgrounds and settings. Here’s a few ideas for your session:
1. A favorite park. A park is I think by far the most popular and common spot for taking engagement photos. Taking photos surrounded by nature can provide some lovely photos. 2. An urban area. I’ve been asked to shoot photos in downtown Omaha, for example in the Old Market, or in the Haymarket area in Lincoln. There are some unique features about these areas and you can get some interesting photos here. 3. A landmark. An important building like the State Capitol or another landmark of your choosing can result in some interesting and maybe some less common engagement photos. 4. The place where you met. This can be especially meaningful to shoot photos at the spot you first met. 5. Your own residence. This can be a place that has special meaning to you. Plus — no one else will have engagement photos just like this. Most couples have engagement photos taken of themselves before their wedding. They like to display the photos at the reception. I’ve often seen framed photos by the guest book.
If you are getting married and in need of engagement photos, think about your options for locations. For some shoots, I have even gone to more than one spot. It gives the engaged couple more variety.
