Welcome to my blog. On this page you will find articles I personally write about the photography industry and my work. You will also see blogs showing the photos from many of my photo sessions.
MIT Images 360 had an exciting job this last week — shooting a virtual tour of the Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln’s Haymarket.
The arena is a natural place for a virtual tour. Believe it or not, there are still a lot of people in Lincoln who haven’t seen the inside of the arena. This tour will allow them to see it. Here’s how it went down.
I have been calling on businesses for awhile now to offer a 360-degree virtual tour of the business interior. When I thought about the places I would love to shoot a virtual tour, the arena was at the top of the list. So I called out of the blue and talked to the receptionist. I explained who I was and what I did. She asked me to email the arena’s marketing director, which I did. I sent some information about these tours along with a video and an offer to shoot a simple tour at no cost. Yes no cost. Depending on the extent of the tour, this project could easily cost a customer thousand, two thousand or more. A virtual tour actually was something the arena was interested in, and they jumped at this opportunity.
There are a couple reasons I offered to do this at no cost. I really wanted the arena in my portfolio and if doing it at no cost was what it took, I was willing. Also, I realize many people have not seen the arena and may never see it. My mother, for one. My mother was against the arena’s construction. And at 84 years old, I doubt that she will ever attend an event there. I know she’s curious what the arena looks like. When my tour is posted, I plan to show her.
The arena shooting took about two hours to complete. I started outside about 10 feet and shot panoramic photos 360 degrees. I moved closer and repeated this step. Then I moved inside. Every 10 feet or so I moved the camera and shot 360-degree panoramic shots. I entered on the main level, which happens to be the floor level of the arena. I worked my way toward the arena until I was inside. The expansiveness of this large area is breathtaking, and an exciting place to shoot photos. I traveled to the center of the basketball court and stopped shooting.
The next step was moving one floor up. I started just outside the arena entrance and moved my way inside and shot from a higher up perspective. The final step was moving to the fourth floor of the arena and photographing one of the luxury boxes.
The Pinnacle Bank Arena virtual tour is now in the editing process and should be up soon. Check Google soon and you should spot it.
