Saving money on photography
Saving money can be difficult when you need professional photography. Photographers can be expensive, so when you need professional portraits taken, you can expect to pay a good amount for them.
Here are some tips you can follow to help yourself save money on professional photography.
1. Decide what you need before you get your pictures taken. Say, for example, you are planning a family portrait session. Know exactly what you want going into the photo session. Do you want a large wall hanging to put over the fireplace and nothing else? Tell your photographer that is what you want upfront. You may be presented with a variety of package options that contain items you don’t want. Express that upfront and avoid being tempted to buy more than you want.
2. Know the photographer’s fee up front and get a complete understanding of what amount will be expected. Some photographers, for example, have a per person charge when it comes to family photography. If you have a big family, that could add up to some serious money. Look for a photographer who doesn’t charge this per person fee but rather has one fee for the session. Fees for photography can be all over the map, so search carefully when looking to find one that can supply you what you need within your budget.
3. Speaking of budget, it is advisable to set a budget for your photography session prior to the session. It will be very easy to go over budget. For example, you may see a photo that you absolutely love but buying it will put you over your budget. Know your budget and stick to it and don’t be swayed to stray from it.
4. If you want a bunch of photos from your session without having to order prints and wall hanging, look for a photographer willing to provide you with a DVD with the edited photos and nothing more. This will free you up to order the prints you want at a price that would be less than the photographer will charge. Don’t expect, however, to get a DVD for a low cost. Photographers charge for their work, and they may charge a good amount of money to turn it over on a DVD.
5. Get multiple photos in one session. You have planned a photo session for the family. Get all your family photos taken but do some other pictures as well. Do you have a high school junior in the family? Consider having the photographer take photos of him or her alone to provide some senior photos. Get photos taken of the kids alone. Go ahead and even ask to get individual photos of each family member. It will provide personal portraits that you won’t need to schedule later.
