Welcome to my blog. On this page you will find articles I personally write about the photography industry and my work. You will also see blogs showing the photos from many of my photo sessions.
When you are looking for a cake vendor, visit with the vendor and try the treats.
Believe it or not, some vendors charge for their time and for their samples. You won’t find that at Cupcakes & More, where the consultation time and the samples are always free.
Owner Regina Henson believes that any couple getting married should have the right to sample her product without cost, and she has a lot of weddings under her belt to show for her service. She estimates 40 weddings are on her calendar for the summer alone, so she is definitely doing something right.
Regina’s wonderful baked goods and her impeccable service are the reasons why Cupcakes & More make my list of my favorite wedding vendors.
As the name implies, Regina does more than cupcakes. While cupcakes are a trend in weddings today, many people still want traditional cake and Henson bakes that as well.
In fact she estimates that 50 percent of her wedding clients go the traditional route. It is more common than not to include a traditional cake with cupcakes or not have cupcakes at all.
Regina has long been a baker, but has owned Cupcakes & More for just five years. Previously she worked with Time Warner Cable and did a lot of traveling. She was asked to transfer to another city for her job but she didn’t want to do that.
Influenced by her two young granddaughters who loved her baking, she decided to open a shop and bake for the public. She had visited a cupcake shop in Kansas City and her granddaughters loved going there, so she decided her shop would be a cupcake shop.
Traditional cake flavors are the traditional white and chocolate as well as red velvet, carrot and German chocolate. But the flavors go way beyond those traditional types. She has more than 300 flavors that she can bake.
One popular trend is having multiple tiers on a cake and making each layer a different flavor. Many of today’s cake bakers won’t offer that option.
Most couples today want options and they want simplicity. Long gone are the fountains and the pillars that decorated the cakes from several years ago. Couples today are opting for simple cakes with simple decorations. Flowers remain a popular decoration.
Regina always encourages her wedding clients to order sheet cake in addition to a traditional layered cake or cupcakes. Another of Regina’s specialties is cake balls and pops on sticks. Not only are they adorable to look at, they are fabulous to eat and can be used for decorations. They make a festive looking cake look even more festive.
To top everything off, Regina does something extra special for the top of her masterpiece. Brides and grooms may know it’s tradition to save the top tier of the cake and freeze it to eat on their first anniversary. Anyone who has tried that will tell you that a cake frozen for a year is basically inedible. So, Regina invites her wedding clients to return for their first anniversary and she will replicate a fresh version of the top tier of the cake and give it to them absolutely free. You can’t offer much better service than that.
Regina gives back to the community as well. She donates her baked goods to a long list of charitable organizations. She has a bulletin board in her shop at 5700 Old Cheney Road in Lincoln plastered with thank you notes.
Plus, Regina’s cake prices are very reasonable.
