Welcome to my blog. On this page you will find articles I personally write about the photography industry and my work. You will also see blogs showing the photos from many of my photo sessions.
The wedding season is fast approaching, and we are getting busy with engagement photo shoots. What are couples looking for today for their engagement shoots? Read on.
It used to be that couples would go into a photo session and get all their engagement pictures taken inside with posing directions from the photographer. They wore suits and dresses. That’s not true anymore. Today’s couples are going outside to their favorite locations. Parks, urban settings, football stadiums. They want places that reflect their interests and also look nice in pictures.
Parks are always popular places. In Lincoln, Sunken Gardens is a hotspot. While not yet prettied up for the warmer weather, it still provides a nice backdrop for photos. In the last week, we have been to Sunken Gardens twice for engagement photo shoots. The vegetation is green and the spring tulips are out. This week I got some great photos of a couple sitting next to the gorgeous orange tulips. Later this summer when the flowers are out, photos shot there will be awash in an array of beautiful colors.
Couples want to have fun on their engagement shoots. They don’t want the formal, stiff portraits where they are contorting into unnatural-feeling poses. They want to sit naturally, interact with each other, smile and be photographed. We ask our couples being photographed during engagement photo shoots to stand, sit, lie down, look at each other, look at the camera, etc. We shoot a couple hundred images.
Most couples dress very casually, as they want their photos to reflect who they are. Plus, no one wants to dress up when they are moving around at a park. This last week, one couple wanted to be photographed in Husker gear, so they wore casual clothes that depicted their favorite sports team.
Really, just about anything goes with today’s engagement photo shoots.
